Michelle Kilcoyne

Dr Michelle Kilcoyne is Lecturer in Glycosciences and currently the Vice Head of School for the Infectious Disease Section (Head of Discipline) at the University of Galway. She is the director of the Carbohydrate Signalling Group, and their main interests are in glycoanalytics applied to food and dairy, glycomics platform development, and carbohydrate-mediated host-microbe interactions. Her first postdoctoral fellowship was at Arizona State University where she further specialised in mass spectrometry and HPLC analyis, and she expanded her interests into mammalian glycosylation. She subsequently returned to the University of Galway to work on industry-supported and European projects, where she developed high throughput platforms for carbohydrate profiling. She completed her PhD in analytical carbohydrate chemistry in the School of Chemistry at University of Galway, specialising in structural analysis of bacterial polysaccharides. Dr. Kilcoyne was a recipient of a Royal Society of Chemistry Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund Fellowship and her research has been funded by Science Foundation Ireland, Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine, Irish Research Council, and Enterprise Ireland.
